Two Major Moves for API Healthcare

API Healthcare, one of the leading providers of workforce management solutions to the healthcare industry, released two major announcements in February 2012: the acquisition of Concerro, a provider of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) staffing and scheduling systems for healthcare, followed by news on February 22 of a strategic partnership with Presagia, developer of SaaS solutions for workforce absence management.

Concerro Acquisition

The February 8 Concerro announcement cited API’s goal “to be the leader in delivering healthcare workforce management across the entire continuum of care” as a key focus of this transaction.  This strategic move allows us to leverage a larger number of talented, diverse and clinically-based staff to deliver the high quality of service that separates API Healthcare from our competitors,” said J.P. Fingado, API president and CEO.

In 2010, Concerro acquired the healthcare scheduling software provider, RES-Q, whose products are included in the API purchase.  RES-Q, ShiftSelect, and CommandAware comprise Concerro’s full suite of clinical solutions.  As API already offered a full suite of workforce management products, it remains to be seen how the new solutions will impact future offerings.

“We are committed to improving quality and performance for our more than 1,300 health system client installations through broad workforce technology,” said Patrick Pomroy, vice president of corporate development, API Healthcare. “The team at Concerro has done a great job of creating solutions that help fulfill these same goals for their client base. With the synergies created by this acquisition, all types of healthcare organizations will have access to innovative technology designed specifically to meet their unique workforce management needs.”

According to the press release, API Healthcare headquarters will remain in Hartford, WI, and the San Diego office will serve as a key business center for the corporation.

MD Buyline currently presents API and Concerro products as separate solutions under its Staff Scheduling technology category.  It is our understanding that API plans to continue support for the Concerro product suite.

Presagia Strategic Partnership

The new partnership with Presagia will directly impact API’s time and attendance customers with anticipated increases in efficiency and compliance.  API’s February 22 press release explained, “API Healthcare clients will have access to Presagia’s leave rules engine with more than 400 federal and state leave rules as well as other key components that will ensure compliance with the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and other state and federal leave laws.”

Fingado addressed the joint arrangement in more detail: “The partnership with Presagia allows our clients access to the best absence management solution on the market. The integration of Presagia’s solution into API Healthcare allows our clients to fully navigate the complexities of absence management, ensuring compliance, which will significantly reduce risk.”
